The 1959 Portuguese Grand Prix: A Look Back
Wow, Formula 1 has changed. This short newsreel film is about the 1959 Portuguese Grand Prix on the streets of Monsanto. Stirling Moss won the race lapping the entire field. It was his first win of the season.
It is amazing that at one time Americans made up a third of the Formula 1 grid. Also at this point, front-engined and mid-engined cars were racing together, but the writing was clearly on the wall. The mid-engined cars dominated the race, and the Aston Martins and BRMs suffered.
