Video of Toyota Setting Nuerburgring Record for an Electric Car
Toyota Motorsports gmbh who used to run Toyota's Formula 1 team has just set the lap record for an electric car at the Nuerburgring. The lap time of 7mins 47.794secs beat the previous best time of 9mins 1.338secs by a huge margin.
The car used was a Radical SR8 that had been modified by TMG to use two of its electric motors. The car produced 800Nm of torque.
TMG plans to market this car with this powertrain to create a one-make racing series.
The most striking thing about the video is the noise or lack thereof. Without an engine wailing you really hear the tires losing grip and the wind noise. The car itself sounds almost like a siren at high revs.
